Bishop Johnson Akinwamide Atere was ordained in 1986, He attended the prestigious Immanuel College of Theology, Ibadan and he is also a graduate of the University of Ibadan. He bagged his doctorate degree in Old Testament from the Lagos State University.

He became the pioneer Bishop of Awori in 2008.

The Cathedral Church of St. James is the seat of the Bishop of Awori, the name Cathedral comes from Greek and Latin words meaning "Chair".

The Bishop as an authority sits on his throne to teach in the Cathedral.

Senior and other Priests are responsible for the running of the day to day affairs of the Cathedral.

The Bishop is the Principal minister and he presides and preaches at major Christian festival and other occassions.

The Bishop is the Cathedral's Visitor and appoints Nominees who are members of the Standing Committee together with other elected members.

He also Issue liecenses to clergy during ordination and exercises other episcopal duties for the care and well-being of the Cathedral and the Diocese.
