1 Chronicles 29:26-30 (NKJV)

26 Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.

27 And the period that he reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years he reigned in Hebron, and thirty-three years he reigned in Jerusalem.

28 So he died in a good old age, full of days and riches and honor; and Solomon his son reigned in his place.

29 Now the acts of King David, first and last, indeed they are written in the book of Samuel the seer, in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer,

30 with all his reign and his might, and the events that happened to him, to Israel, and to all the kingdoms of the lands.

1 Chronicles ends with a brief survey of David’s reign and affirms the unity of Israel. It also says that David died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honour (29:28). The three prophets mentioned, played important roles in David’s life. Samuel was the one through whom God anointed David king to succeed Saul (11:3). Nathan was known for the prophecy concerning the dynasty that he pronounced in 17:3-14. Gad was the one who announced to David both the punishment and the way to end it after the census (21:18).

David was not an epitome of saintly perfection. He was a flawed human but a man who trusted God, did his best to serve Him, and asked for forgiveness when he failed. He was a man after God’s heart (Acts 13: 22). David knew the source of his greatness. The kingdom was not David’s kingdom but God’s. The throne on which Solomon sat was not David’s throne but God’s. The end of David’s kingdom does not mean the end of the kingdom of God. Jesus reigns eternally. He is the Son of David, but at the same time, He is the Son of God (Matt 22:41-46). Align yourself with Him so that posterity will remember you for good.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to be in the number when the saints are matching to heaven in Jesus name, Amen.
